Index Terms—Mobile ad hoc networks, on-demand routing protocols, mobility, distributed cache updating. The routing protocols meant for wired networks can not be used for mobile ad hoc networks because of the mobility of networks.By continuing to use this site, you consent to the use of cookies. We use cookies to offer you a better experience, personalize content, tailor advertising, provide social media features, and better understand the use of our services. These routing protocols differ in the method by which the topology change information is distributed across the network and the number of necessary routing-related tables. The following sections discuss some of the existing table-driven ad hoc routing protocols. However, heuristics cannot accurately estimate timeouts because topology changes are unpredictable.

In table driven routing protocols consistent and up-to-date routing information to all nodes is maintained at each node whereas in on-demand routing the routes are created only when desired by the source host.We define a new cache structure called a cache table and present a distributed cache update algorithm. Each node maintains in its cache table the information necessary for cache updates. The mobile unit can move geographically while it is communicating. In contrast to infrastructure based networks, in ad hoc networks all nodes are mobile and can be connected dynamically in an arbitrary manner.

When it goes out of range of one base station, it connects with new base station and starts communicating through it. All nodes of these networks behave as routers and take part in discovery and maintenance of routes to other nodes in the network. To learn more or modify/prevent the use of cookies, see our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.
